Ball Out: Just One Of The Guys

When you grow up with an older brother who practically eats, breathes, and sleeps basketball, you tend to transition the mesh jersey into your life at a very young age. With a vocabulary that consisted of phrases like “slam dunk” and “alley-oop” and a wardrobe to match, this was my streetwear style in the making. I sub-ed out pants for oversized jerseys, looked to rap and hip-hop fashion influences for style advice (cue Snoop Dogg and Tupac), and took on the label of tomboy with pride. Now, however many years later, I’ve found that your age does change, but your style just keeps cycling. Streetwear with a touch of sport, minus the pants..oh and with a touch of leather. Thanks Michael Jordan, Penny Hardaway and Shaquille O’Neal, you’ve turned your sports legends into fashion influences.
